
How to make a healthy ginger drink!
In the middle of the coldest winter month of February, we thought we'd share a good way to energy boost your body, namely a strengthening, invigorating health drink in the form of ginger drink!
Now you might think that it doesn't really belong here, and you have a point there 😉 But since we've read about "everything" there is to read about healthy ginger before Christmas when we made Christmas soap with ginger scent, we still think it's worth a little post.
Ginger is considered to have many health-promoting properties and also to be a good protection to keep you healthy from nasty colds!
Here's how to make the ginger drink in a few easy steps!
Recipe Ginger Drink:
2 liters of water
7 dl sugar
4 lemons (can also be replaced by lime)
3 large pieces of ginger
1. Rinse the lemons and ginger. Use organic lemons if possible.
2. Mix the ginger whole with peel in a food processor as finely as possible.
3. Transfer the ginger mixture to a large bowl.
4. Squeeze the lemons into the bowl and also add the peels after squeezing.
5. Boil water and sugar into a sugar syrup.
6. Pour the hot sugar syrup into the bowl and stir.
7. Cover and let steep overnight.
8. The next day, strain the ginger drink and pour into bottles.
Store in the refrigerator. Pour into a glass and dilute with water to desired strength and enjoy well chilled.
Different gingers have slightly different strengths and cause the end result to vary slightly, but this drink has a lot of kick!
This recipe is taken from the Caribbean, where homemade Ginger Beer is very popular! One thing you should remember is that it is strongly diuretic, so you shouldn't be surprised if you very soon need to visit a toilet, but this is offset by the fact that it is a very tasty and healthy drink!
