Today (October 15th) is International Day of Rural Women, or is it?
In any case, October 15th has been a day established by the UN General Assembly to annually recognize the crucial role that women in rural areas play in their development and the fight against poverty.
Of course, this was intended from an international perspective and perhaps not primarily for us who, relatively speaking, are very well off. In many countries, women, and women in rural areas, have much worse conditions than we do in our safe country. BUT wasn't it a fantastic day for us to support our sisters, do things together, help and learn from each other? Here, if the will is there, we can probably do really great things.
Just take something as simple as the Facebook group GlebygdsGirls, which has an enormous number of members and a lot of activity. Here, tons of information, both big and small, are exchanged daily. Knowledge is shared, and relationships are built between women in the Swedish countryside. I, as a member, often find it valuable. Imagine if we could take that trend to an international level?! Surely that should be possible, right?!
A small thing, but you have to start somewhere... a tiny example.
The sad thing here is that the day doesn't seem to "exist anymore"; October 15th exists, of course, but it doesn't seem to be a theme day anymore. Or am I wrong?
In any case, I can't find it in any new calendar, and what isn't on Google, doesn't exist.
That's very sad in that case, I think, and I immediately turn into the "old woman against the stream."
International Day of Rural Women is still celebrated here, so there!
Tomorrow we celebrate with something homegrown, a new banner on the website, and FREE SHIPPING in the webshop based in the countryside, in Västerbotten, in the forest. (Applies to orders from 150 SEK throughout the weekend)
The free shipping code is – 15oktober – Please note that the shipping cost, i.e., 55 SEK, is deducted from the total in the shopping cart; the shipping line may still be displayed.
Hooray for rural women and bring back the theme day – it deserves a place in the calendar and attention!
Hooray for all of us, October 15th should be celebrated!
Regards, Sara
