On celebrating what deserves to be celebrated, and a sausage cake to top it off!

It is said that one should celebrate what deserves to be celebrated, and there lies much wisdom in that

At home, we have always tried to really reward the children when they have done something good, when they have reached a goal that they themselves have set or that we have talked about. For example, we have always celebrated school graduations a little extra. When you have behaved well in school and worked hard for a whole school year, we think they deserve a little cake party. We have the same mindset about the start of school. School is actually fantastic – it should be fun to learn, and we really want to tell the children that it is big and important to actually have the privilege of starting school, because not everyone gets that.
Therefore, at each school start, we celebrate the school with a Sausage Cake, festive as anything in the middle of the week!

The recipe is quite similar to the classic baked ring sausage 😉
it's the garnish and presentation that differ, and not to forget... the sparklers!

Do this:

1. Preheat the oven to 225°C (437°F).

2. Place a ring of ring sausage in an ovenproof dish. Cut 3/4 of the way through in thick slices and fill with ketchup, mustard & Boston pickle (if the children like it) and push a slice of cheese into each slit.

3. Make a lovely mashed potato, preferably from homegrown organic potatoes. A knob of butter and a little warm milk.

4. Arrange the mash nicely in the middle or pipe it prettily.

5. Bake in the middle of the oven for 15–20 minutes.

6. Boil green peas for garnish and cut some tomatoes into roses.

7. Garnish and, for heaven's sake, don't forget the sparklers 😉

8. Serve the baked sausage and mash with cheers and general festive conditions.
Tip: Napkins and straws add to the party atmosphere.
