Wilhelmina Winter Weekend 2018
Wilhelmina Winter Weekend celebrated its 20th anniversary this year, 2018. Hard to believe it's been 20 years since we started this slightly crazy thing of competing in ice pole sitting in Vilhelmina!? Time flies when you're having fun!
We in our little village of Siksjönäs are involved in that we provide ice for the ice pole sitting, sculptures, and of course the beautiful church that Wilhelmina Lions Club builds every year. This year we were also involved in the WWW market. As you understand, we have been sweating despite the cold.
The weekend was very good ... maybe a little extra good because Inlandsbanan also turned 100 years old and it was celebrated with the King himself coming to visit! Consequently, it wasn't really appropriate to fail this year ... but we didn't! Everything went smoothly, and we think most visitors had a royally good time.

Here is the ice pole sitting on its last day. There are two out of eight left, and when it was over, they had sat for 66 hours without sleep about 3m up in the air on a pole of ice. They are only allowed to get off the pole every three hours for ten minutes. The record was set in the winter of 2013 when the temperature was down to -28.8 degrees, but 2018 was the time again – the record was beaten by a margin.

And here you have us. On Saturday, we stood up on Storgatan with a view of the festival area and sold brushes, brooms and soap, of course. Cold but nice!
Luckily, we had mulled wine left over from the Christmas market and with a little citrus fruit and star anise we turned it into non-alcoholic Glühwein, which we offered our customers.
There were lots of people on the go during the WWW weekend. It's always fun!
This beautiful gingerbread followed the children home. Great happiness! It is Råg och Vete Hembageri that makes these creations, and as you may have guessed, these two bakers originally come from Germany. Nowadays, however, they adorn the breakfast tables in Vilhelmina with their delicious bread.
Just imagine that the ice turns into such a beautiful but oh so perishable church every year!
Welcome to Vilhelmina next February and the winter festival Wilhelmina Winter Weekend 2019
