In this post, we share useful tips for cleaning and washing with bicarbonate! Here is some useful advice:
Ants don't like bicarbonate: Sprinkle bicarbonate where the ants come in to deter them.
Clean silver and copper: Use bicarbonate together with aluminum foil and boiling hot water to remove the oxide from silver and copper.
Remove bad odor: Place bicarbonate in a bowl to absorb and neutralize unwanted odors in the room.
Handle sweat odor in clothes: Add bicarbonate to the washing machine to remove sweat odor and maintain the color of white laundry.
Bicarbonate has many uses; here we cover tips that apply to cleaning, washing, and sanitation. No home remedies or beauty tips; our bicarbonate is intended for cleaning and washing.
A bicarbonate solution is slightly alkaline, basic; you could call it the opposite of acidic. A 1:10 (9%) aqueous solution becomes weakly alkaline (pH 8.3), a 1% solution gets pH 8-8.6.
Bicarbonate tips, here's how to do it!
- Ants don't like bicarbonate: If you have ants in kitchen cabinets and other spaces, sprinkle a line of bicarbonate where you suspect the ants are coming in.
- Tip you may have seen on TV-shop
Sodium bicarbonate removes the dark from silver and copper (the oxide) through electrolysis, which does not damage your fine items. Do this:
Place a large piece of crumpled aluminum foil in the sink or other stainless steel container. Sprinkle over 10 ml (2 tsp) sodium bicarbonate. Place the items in. Sprinkle over more sodium bicarbonate. Pour in 1 liter of boiling hot water; it starts to bubble; it is carbonic acid that is formed. Allow to cool, rinse and dry. (For silver plate and brass, weak acids are better (citric acid, acetic acid, vinegar, ketchup, buttermilk). - Clean the thermos: Pour warm water into the thermos, add a couple of teaspoons of sodium bicarbonate, let stand – after 15-20 minutes, the thermos is just to rinse out and it is completely clean inside.
- Stainless steel sink can be wiped with sodium bicarbonate on a damp cloth to become really shiny.
- Remove bad odor: You can easily remove smoke odor by placing sodium bicarbonate dry in a bowl in the room. Also removes odors such as diesel, garbage, etc.
- Sweat odor in clothes. When the sweat odor does not want to release from the fabric – add two to three tablespoons of bicarbonate in the washing machine. Note that bicarbonate also has a bleaching effect. The bicarbonate can also be used when washing white laundry to preserve the white color.
- Urine: sprinkle bicarbonate and possibly a little lemon oil where the cat/dog has peed – vacuum up the next day).
- If you have accidentally scratched a wall or a child has drawn on the wall, try mixing 50/50 of water and bicarbonate and scrub gently with a sponge.
- Make white shoes white again. Powder bicarbonate over the shoe, dab with vinegar and let the bubbles work.
- 10. Yellowed white goods/plastic, make a solution with bicarbonate 1 part and water 4 parts. Apply the solution and let it dry for about 10 minutes and then wipe off.
- 11. Fake dry cleaning: Sprinkle bicarbonate over the mattress topper, let it sit and then vacuum it off.
- 12. Accident, pee in the bed: Wash the sheets immediately, try to soak up as much as possible with paper towels and then sprinkle plenty of bicarbonate on the mattress and vacuum up the following day.
Bicarbonate is approved by the Swedish Society for Nature Conservation as a Good Environmental Choice of alkaline substance. KRAV-approved acid / base / salt.
