Clean the whole house at rocket speed

Cleaning is important, but it can sometimes feel like a source of stress in everyday life. Sometimes there isn’t enough time, especially when other things demand our attention. Here, we share our best tips for quickly and efficiently cleaning the whole house without burning yourself out.

It’s certainly satisfying to clear out cabinets and drawers, wipe them down with soap and a cloth, and feel that everything is neat, tidy, clean, and fresh, but life isn’t always like that. We don’t feel good with too much dirt and mess at home, but we also don’t feel good when cleaning becomes a source of stress, a burden in everyday life.

You’ve probably found yourself in situations where exams are scheduled too close together and there simply aren’t enough hours for “studying,” or when the children are sick, don’t sleep through the night, or when the house needs repainting … then it’s easy for the cleaning not to get done, and that’s completely okay. That’s life! But then a time comes when everything needs to be sorted out and cleaned up, and it’s important not to push yourself so hard that you burn out. Here are my best tips for cleaning the whole house at lightning speed.

 

1. Explain the situation to the family. It takes one person a very long time to clear everything up, BUT if you all help out, it will be done in less time and you can then do something else.

*It’s a good idea to set a goal. For example: If we all help out and tidy up, we can have ice cream afterward or watch a movie.
*Divide the home into areas so that everyone has a room to take responsibility for.
*Explain the order of tasks.

2. Start by sorting:
* Dirty laundry goes in the laundry basket—clean clothes are put away. The hallway is often a problem. Make sure the family doesn't keep all their belongings in the hallway. Ski boots and hiking boots most likely don't need to be left out. Put them away in the storage room or hang them up, and cleaning will immediately become easier.

 

 

* Sort paper, glass, and household waste—throw away everything that should be discarded. Gather and sort advertisements, old envelopes, cardboard boxes, and other paper. Throw away other rubbish and sort any deposit bottles.

 

 

Put the dishes in the dishwasher and start it. Now take out ALL the sorted waste, laundry, and rubbish, including the bathroom wastebasket and any wastebaskets in other rooms.

Once this has been done in all the rooms—FEEL THE DIFFERENCE. The worst is over, and together it won’t take long at all.

 

 

3. Now it’s time to clean. Of course, this depends on how much time you have for cleaning at lightning speed, but do whatever you / you all have time for.

Start by mixing the soap spray and getting out some cloths. We at Västerbottenssåpa have developed soap spray for the kitchen, living room, and bathroom. It’s a good idea to have one of each type ready.

 

 

Start from the top and wipe all table surfaces and countertops clean. Wipe off any sticky high chairs, and clean the kitchen cabinet doors with soap spray and a soft cloth. You can spray the stovetop and leave it for a little while so the soap can do its work ;) 

 

If you have time, wipe down the baseboards, bookshelves, and so on … but you know what? If you’re in a hurry, it’s not the end of the world. You can do that another day.

4. The toilet—a very important area for making the home feel clean and fresh. So start by cleaning the toilet. Feel free to use bathroom soap in the toilet bowl and scrub with the toilet brush. It’s a good idea to leave a little soap in the toilet to dissolve anything that has stuck to it. If you have a toilet seat that can easily be removed, my best tip is to take it off, place it on the shower floor, and clean it with soap and water. Our bathroom soap spray works excellently on porcelain. Never use the same cloth in other rooms; have a dedicated cloth for cleaning the toilet. Professional cleaners use pink/red cloths only for toilets (a color code ;) ), so you avoid spreading bacteria throughout the house. Now spray the sink and taps with soap spray and wipe them clean. Done!

5. The floors. Your floors probably don’t look very appealing now! When you clean from top to bottom, everything ends up on the floors. If you’re really “short on time”, just vacuum throughout the house and voilà—the whole house will look clean in no time.

If you have a little more time, mop the floors after vacuuming. Add some of our pine-scented soap to the mop bucket, and the house will feel “spotless”. If you have vinyl or parquet floors, use water and soap sparingly; you don’t need much for these types of flooring.


6. If you have just a little time to spare, my “top-notch tip” is to clean the mirrors and taps with window cleaner and a soft cloth—it makes that little extra difference.

There we go! The house is clean, and you can sit back and relax or welcome your guests if the cleaning was needed before a gathering or party.

You can take care of the oven, floor drains and windows another time ;)
