Clean your car like a professional
Washing your car (on the outside) at home is not good for the environment. Doing so flushes large amounts of heavy metals and oil directly into nature. Many municipalities in the country have also introduced hefty fines for those who wash their car at home on the street/in the yard. Go to an approved car wash with an oil separator and choose environmentally labeled car products for the exterior.
The interior, on the other hand, is fine to wash/clean at home! And here's a little tip that makes old rubber mats like new!
Do this!
1. Take out all the trash, sort it, and throw it away!
2. If you use CDs, sort them so you don't have to fumble with them while driving, it's dangerous!
2. Vacuum the mats and take them out of the car.
2. Then take the opportunity to vacuum the rest of the car.
3. Use lukewarm water and a superfatted soap such as Västerbottenssåpa. Tired and dried-out rubber mats will then be re-greased and regain their shine. – Rinse and wipe with a cloth! Like new!
4. While you're at it, wipe the car's rubber seals (around the doors) with a damp cloth and soap – these will also regain their shine.
5. Wipe the interior of the car with a slightly damp cloth and very little soap; too much water and detergent risk staining the interior and making it streaky.
OVERKURS – for the cleaning enthusiast
1. Make sure to have waste/trash bags in the car so you don't have to store trash on the floor or in the door pockets.
2. Always have a pack of wet wipes in the car. Then you are prepared for anything that might happen... and can wipe off things as well as your and others' hands in case of, for example, ice cream incidents 😉
