Guide: How to Soap the Deck / Patio

Here's how to do it:

1.
Scrub clean from algae, lichens, and dirt with HOT water and fatty soap, the deck soap from Västerbottenssåpa is superfatted and is therefore a good choice. The hot water together with the soap makes algae, lichens, stains and marks in the wood release.

Use a stiff brush. If the surface is large, a floor brush is a good thing to have. You can find the handle in the nearest hardware store.

2. Dry or rinse the surface, there should be no loose dirt left from scrubbing on the surface when it's time to start treating. However, if the deck is new and clean, you don't need to rinse or dry, then start directly with step three.

3. Mix about 1l of soap with 10l of COLD water (in a bucket), soak a scrub cloth in the soapy water, then place it over the floor brush and go over the entire deck. The soapy water should be absorbed into the wood. You can also work the cold soap mixture into the wood with the soft floor brush.

More repetitions give a smoother surface. You feel when the wood is saturated and you are satisfied with the result.

Repeat step 3 for an even smoother, more saturated surface.
