Household tip: how to easily sort waste from an ordinary trash can
Sara Idenfors
All you need is:
- Regular garbage bags with handles
- Compostable corn-starch bags with handles
- Wastebasket
- Hot glue gun and glue
- Two plastic caps

Step-by-step instructions
1. Plug in the hot glue gun so it heats up, then glue one of the caps to the top edge. See the picture.

2. Attach the compostable bag, then measure where cap 2 should go (opposite the first one), and attach the handles to the second bag once the glue has dried. It won’t take long!

Done—it’s not any more difficult than that
You’ve now made it easy to do the right thing! A wastebasket with two bags and two compartments keeps everything from ending up in the same bin, allowing you to sort compostable waste into the biodegradable corn-starch bag and plastic into the other. Naturally, you can also use other bags to sort other materials. In this example, one bag was used for compostable waste and one for plastic—paper recycling is handled separately here, so this was all that was needed to make sorting correctly easy!
