We have had the honor of following Anette who cleans in the church in Vilhelmina.
Exciting and quite different cleaning. In this blog, you will see a little from our "work experience" and of course, you will get to take part in some of Anette's wisdom.
This is Anette who is responsible for cleaning, among other things, the church in Vilhelmina.
Anette tells us that the responsibility for the church's property management and the care of the fixtures lies with the respective parish, so you have to be both careful, well-read, and thorough with the cleaning in such a special building as a church.
The requirements for cleaning a church are extra special considering that few buildings are as old as churches often are and are still used for their original purpose.
Anette points out that the church is not just a church but also an important historical environment where the works of local craftsmen and artists play a major role in preserving the history of the area. Even though the management of the churches is handled by the parish itself, they are subject to, for example, the Cultural Heritage Act.
You have to be very careful when cleaning a church.
It's not like other public premises where you repaint when needed. You have to think about using gentle cleaning agents in moderate to small amounts. You also cannot be too rough; you have to use soft brushes and cloths and take into account painted and sensitive surfaces. Churches that have medieval altarpieces or other very old decorations should be cleaned by a conservator. - Yes, it's actually that precise, Anette says.
Anette uses a very, very soft goat hair brush for the painted moldings and the church's magnificent chandeliers. An extra-long, telescopic handle is good to have here.
The handle is made of aluminum to be light. The handle can actually be made 4m 10cm at its longest. With a special joint, you can also angle the brush that is attached to the handle so that you can reach moldings and cornices. This brush is intended for reaching and dusting delicate
