We asked on Facebook what cleaning tips you wanted and we got 19 suggestions!

– so here are also 19 answers!

As usual, all the tips are natural, that is – none of them contain strong and unnecessary chemicals. Some tips are really tough and intended as answers to those who are somewhat desperate about, for example, a difficult stain. It's a bit of a last resort before you give up and re-wallpaper or repaint. We wish you good luck with these little "disasters" and hope that with these tips you will be able to solve the problems.
If you have sensitive, expensive and very special items (genuine rugs or furniture made of special materials), you should always contact the manufacturer or seller for advice.

Questions and answers about cleaning

1. How do you clean the oven?

– Dirt in the oven is often grease and a little burnt. We recommend a solid soap and eco-fiber sponge. Use a little lukewarm water and a dab of soap on the sponge and then rub the entire oven.
Let it work for at least 1 hour, then rub with the eco-fiber sponge one more round and wipe out with a cloth and lukewarm water. Should it be the case that the oven is really dirty or old so that it is difficult to get completely clean for that reason, we suggest that when you have rubbed the oven with the solid soap, you put an oven dish with a little water in it and set the oven to 175*C and let the water boil so that steam is formed.
Turn off when you see that the oven is filled with water vapor but be careful, the steam is hot! Wait until it has cooled down and then wipe it out. Now everything will come off!

2. How do you polish copper?

You can easily make the best and easiest copper polish yourself. See the clip below.
You can find the products here: Västerbottenssåpa

This is how easily you polish copper!

3. How do you clean a granite countertop?

Granite is a fantastic material, not only beautiful but also practical. Since granite is a natural material, a fatty soap is preferable. All natural materials benefit from fatty soap. Use a damp cloth and liquid or solid soap on the countertop. If you have more difficult stains or something that has stuck, we suggest that you try with a sponge and then, if the stain is very difficult, an eco-fiber sponge but keep in mind that it can scratch, especially if the countertop has some form of special honing, so be careful.
Never use acetic acid and vinegar on honed stone and marble.

4. How do you clean a hob?

Hobs are available in different materials, so you should always follow the manufacturer's advice BUT most newer hobs are of a better kind and not as sensitive as they were when they first came out. Start with soap and a damp cloth; dirt on the stove is almost always greasy, and the principle is that fat dissolves fat. If this doesn't work, if you have more difficult dirt and stains, you go over to a soft sponge and soap, the next step is the eco-fiber cloth and the soap.
Here, however, it is time to start being careful – the fiber cloth is really tough and can scratch. An eco-fiber cloth costs 10kr and lasts a long time, but a tip is to cut it in two parts so it lasts twice as long .
If you have dirt that is badly burnt onto the hob, mix a tablespoon of bicarbonate with 1dl of vinegar and let it bubble on the hob before you wipe it off. It dissolves most burnt-on stains. When you use fatty soap on shiny materials like a hob, it is easy to get streaks, so wipe clean with a damp cloth and wipe dry with a splash of vinegar on a paper towel to make it shiny.

5. How do you clean brushed steel, like white goods?

The trick with brushed steel is spelled "polish"; it's a bit like polishing a mirror. All water and grease must be removed. If you only have a few streaks, take a splash of vinegar on a dry cotton cloth (not the dishcloth) or a paper towel and polish. Think mirror polish! If, on the other hand, you have a lot of grease, fingerprints and splashes, it must be removed first, so the principle applies: fat dissolves fat. Soap on cloth or soft sponge – make sure to remove all grease and dirt. Wipe clean with the dishcloth and then polish with vinegar on a dry cloth. Shiny!

6. How to remove cat and dog hair from textiles?

Here you need something "sticky" where the hair can get stuck – a dishwashing glove or a rubber scraper (plastic scraper does not work) works fine on, for example, furniture. Work systematically and stroke over the entire piece of furniture to get all the hair. Some materials are extra tricky, and the hair wants to "creep" into the material. Here you need a good packing tape, tape and peel off and repeat as needed. A regular lint roller is too weak to pull hair out of, for example, fleece. Be sure to shake and brush before washing in the machine.

6. How do you clean the kitchen fan?

The kitchen fan always gets greasy. Remove the filters (they are almost always made of metal and easy to remove nowadays). Of course, this varies from model to model, so follow the manufacturer's tips if they are of a special nature. You can most easily run the filters of regular standard fans in the dishwasher. If you do not have a dishwasher, make a bath of soap and warm water in the sink and let them soak for a while before cleaning them with a dish brush. You wipe the outside of the fan with a damp cloth and fatty soap. You know... fat dissolves fat!

7. Cat and dog urine on rugs?

If it is an expensive genuine rug, take it to a specialist. If it is a normal rug that you just want to save, do the following as long as it is not time to bridge-scrub the rug, of course
Do this: Put newspaper or plastic under the rug (if it is not a fitted carpet) Moisten the stain with lukewarm water and soap. Use a brush that does not damage the rug and work up a lather. Wipe up as much of the lather and water as you can with a cloth. Repeat until you feel that you have removed most of the urine. Then take 1/3 acetic acid and 2/3 water, moisten the stain with this and wipe up the excess again.
The acetic acid odor will remove the last of the urine odor, and the cat will not visit the same spot again; cats dislike acetic acid. The acetic acid odor will disappear over time and take the bad odor with it.

9. What do you do about mold in the bathroom?

If you find mold in the bathroom, you should check as soon as possible that you do not have water damage and leaking pipes in walls, floors or ceilings. Then the ventilation must be checked. When you are sure that neither water damage nor ventilation is the problem, do the following (Mold can occur locally): Scrub away all mold immediately. Black mold is even toxic and can make you sick, so it must be removed. Since mold spreads with spores and grows, it is important to be careful, remove as much as possible and do not wait too long before you repeat. Do not let the fungus take hold! By using soap, you also create a basic environment, which fungi usually dislike, so scrub with a panel brush and plenty of solid soap and you will see that you keep the mold away.
Feel free to watch the clip in point 8.

10. How do you remove limescale around faucets?

You can most easily remove limescale with acetic acid. Mix 1/3 acetic acid and 2/3 water and spray on. If you have severe deposits, for example, where the faucet is mounted on the countertop, moisten a paper towel with the acetic acid mixture and wrap it around the faucet. Let it work for about 1 hour. Note that acetic acid should not be used on marble and polished stone, but it works fine on a regular stainless steel countertop or porcelain.

11. How do you remove printer ink from a table top?

Printer ink is "tricky"; it depends entirely on what type of surface it has stuck to BUT I want to give you a tip to take a splash of neutral (uncolored) cooking oil and treat the stain with it. Let it work for a while. The cooking oil dissolves the grease in the ink, and it should then be possible to remove it with soap and a cloth.

12. How do you get rid of algae?

Algae are tough and difficult to get rid of, but it is possible. Tile roofs that are attacked by moss and algae are treated with soap that is allowed to remain. The soap is alkaline, and the algae, which propagate with spores, do not like that. So my tip is to clean with solid soap and to wipe a little poorly Just wipe dry with a paper towel, i.e. not with a damp cloth.... let a little soap remain so the algae dislike it. But as I said... algae are survivors, and this may need to be repeated a few times before you get rid of the spores.

13. Help, the dog has made a greasy stain on the rug!

-I assume that the rug does not fit in the washing machine?! Then you do the following: If it is an expensive genuine rug, take it to a specialist. If it is a normal rug that you just want to save, do the following: Put newspaper or plastic under the rug (if it is not a fitted carpet) Moisten the stain with lukewarm water and soap. Use a brush that does not damage the rug and work up a lather. Wipe up as much of the lather and water as you can with a cloth. Repeat until you feel that you have removed the grease. Fat dissolves fat, so a fatty soap is preferable! If you have an unpleasant odor left, you can treat it with a little vinegar or acetic acid on a paper towel. It removes the odor, but you also risk that the dog no longer likes its spot. Animals usually dislike the smell of vinegar / acetic acid. The acetic acid odor disappears over time and takes the bad odor with it.

14. How do you remove stains from iron-rich water?

I assume that it is the bathroom porcelain that has been discolored by the iron, and you can most easily solve that by using citric acid that you let work for a while. Scrub clean with an eco-fiber cloth or a stiffer brush. You can buy citric acid in a regular grocery store; it is in the spice shelf under the letter "C".

15. How do you remove grease stains from wallpaper?

– Oh, yes, this is not fun but not entirely impossible to fix. Everything depends, of course, on how bad it is, but if we assume that it is a paper wallpaper, which is the most difficult to clean, you do this: Start by removing any remnants of what caused the stain. Then take potato starch that you powder on and brush off. Repeat and repeat again. This will work, but it is possible that it is not enough. Then you take a piece of dry, white bread (sandwich bread) but make sure that it is a little dry and not of a fine fatty kind Regular cheap, dry bread works well. Use the bread as a sponge to treat the grease stain with the potato starch. Work from the outside in so that the stain does not spread / is pulled out. If this is still not enough, you can try taking a piece of parchment paper, holding it against the wallpaper while heating with an iron on low heat. Absolutely do not do this if the wallpaper is made of plastic and do not have it too hot.

16. How do you clean a fabric sofa where the cover cannot be removed?

It depends entirely on what type of dirt it is and what type of material it is. For antique, expensive and special furniture, you always contact an upholsterer or other specialist to clean it. But if it is a regular textile, furniture that just feels unclean, then you powder it with plenty of bicarbonate and let it work for a while (No water or other moisture), then you vacuum up the bicarbonate and "viola" you have done a little homemade dry cleaning You treat greasy stains with soap, fatty soap dissolves greasy stains. Sponge, lukewarm water and work up a lather. Wipe up and repeat until the stain is gone. Be careful to wipe up the moisture as well as possible from the furniture. If it is really bad, there are often textile cleaning machines to rent in, for example, a paint store or a building materials store.

17. How do you remove blueberry stains?

Blueberries have an incredibly strong coloring agent, so it is unfortunately quite possible to ruin things with blueberries BUT it may also be possible to save them if you do it right. Blueberries are alkaline, and the stains can therefore be treated with acidic agents such as acetic acid and vinegar. Mix with water and work with a soft sponge.

18. How do you remove tape residue?

Tape can leave ugly marks! Fortunately, tape is easily removed with a little vinegar. Moisten a paper towel and soak the tape residue thoroughly with vinegar, wait 5 minutes and repeat; after another 5 minutes, the tape residue is dissolved, and you can easily wipe it away. Note that the vinegar should not dry; you must remove the tape residue while the vinegar is still moist.
