Tiles, pebbles, grout and how to clean them

Cleaning the bathroom without lots of harsh products sounds like a bit of a challenge, but we promise it's easier than you think! Here's a little guide on how to clean tiles, tile grout, and pebbles using only soap.

In all bathrooms, deposits form on walls and floors, especially in shower and bath areas where it is humid and wet. Tile grout, and especially light-colored tile grout, can become discolored over time if you only wipe the surfaces. Then a slightly more thorough cleaning is needed.

These tiles are meant to resemble pebbles but are not real pebbles; they have a matte surface with irregularities that make them "difficult to clean." In addition, the grout is very light. This bathroom was tiled and grouted 15 years ago.
As you may have seen in the popular program Sveriges Städmästare on SVT, you don't need special products for more thorough cleaning either; soap works excellently. A big advantage of solid soap is that it doesn't run off vertical surfaces like shower walls. You can easily work up a lather that can be left on the wall for a while. See below.

To scrub this shower area, we use an old-fashioned scrubbing brush or root brush in wood from Västerbottenssåpa. It is really sturdy. A brush like this costs a little more but is an investment; it doesn't wear out in the same way as a plastic brush that tends to become "flat" quite quickly.

It is advantageous to let the foam you work up remain and act for a while, then lightly scrub along the grout one more time and rinse with lukewarm water.
The result is shown below.

Here we have only used VästerbottensSåpa original without preservatives, perfume, or other additives. This soap contains only pure soap based on rapeseed oil. Since cooking oil is a food product, it does not contain any dangerous residues from any industry – the raw material is thus very pure, as is the end product. It is therefore not dangerous for you as a user and not for the environment either.
