In this post, we show how to easily treat pine furniture with VästerbottensSåpa to improve their surface and durability. Unfortunately, it is difficult to fully convey the effect with just text and images, but we have done our best to show before and after results.

Here we show how to easily treat pine furniture with VästerbottensSåpa.
Unfortunately, the effect of this is somewhat difficult to describe in text and image; you should preferably feel the surface before and after to experience the difference.
However, we have done what we can to show with pictures.
This dresser is a simple pine dresser from IKEA. It has been assembled from a flat pack and then put into use immediately, without any surface treatment whatsoever. The result has been that dirt, makeup, soap, and dust have stuck and penetrated the wood. The surface was also not completely smooth-sanded but a bit rough, which made it quite difficult to wipe off.
See the first small angled image – here you can see scratches and marks that could not be wiped off.
The image in the middle shows the dresser as it looked from the beginning – quite matte.
What we have done is soap-scrub it – Solid soap, lukewarm water, root brush from IrisHantverk, and then we worked up a lather. As you can see, it becomes a thicker foam and not light soap bubbles. This is because the soap is superfatted, which is also what re-greases the wood and gives it a pleasant surface.
The last picture shows the dresser after soap-scrubbing.
It is a bit difficult to see in the picture, but the surface becomes completely different. It does not attract dirt in the same way and is much easier to wipe off. The surface treatment can be repeated several times for a better result. 1 time / 6 months is what is often recommended for soap-scrubbed wooden floors, and we think that is a suitable recommendation here as well. It depends, of course, on how the furniture is used. This particular piece of furniture is in a bathroom in a family with children and is used daily and frequently. It stores ointments, skin cream, and toothpaste, i.e., it is a household item.
