How to clean tile and floor-tile grout with soap

Bathroom grout is often the first thing to start looking dirty, especially near the shower, where water, soap residue, and dirt accumulate. In this guide (with video!), we show you how to easily get your tile and ceramic-tile grout clean and bright again using entirely natural products such as soap, warm water, and a root brush.

 

Common causes of dirty grout

 

It is completely normal for bathroom grout to become darker over time, especially:

  • - Near the shower and bathtub, where moisture and soap residue accumulate

  • - If the floor is only wiped with a mop or cloth

  • - Inadequate ventilation

 

The grout then looks discolored, but it can be remedied!

 

How to clean grout with soap and a root brush

 

Here is an eco-friendly and effective way to remove dirt and buildup from tile and ceramic-tile grout:

Here’s how to do it:

 

  1. 1. Pour a little soap directly onto the grout or dip the root brush in a mixture of warm water and soap.

  2. 2. Scrub the grout with the brush; you don’t need to scrub hard.

  3. 3. Wipe immediately with a damp cloth to remove dirt and soap.

  4. 4. Let the surface dry; you will see a big difference!

 

Don’t forget that grout often becomes lighter after cleaning—that’s how it is supposed to look!

 

Why does this work so well?

 

Soap is a natural grease-dissolving cleaning agent that, together with a brush, removes ingrained dirt and soap residue. Unlike regular mopping, where dirt is mostly moved around, this cleans deep down without harsh chemicals.
