How to clean your car seat belt!

In our everyday lives, car seat belts are often exposed to quite a lot of dirt and stains. It is not unusual for them to start smelling bad because of spilled drinks or sweat that penetrates the tightly woven textile. To keep them clean and fresh, they need a thorough cleaning at regular intervals. In this text, we present a few simple steps for effectively cleaning car seat belts and making them look like new again!

Car seat belts tend to get dirty and can even start to smell bad. This is because they sit close against the body and are made of textile—lots of tightly woven threads into which ice cream, soft drinks, coffee, and sweat seep and take hold.

 

Here’s how to clean them most easily:

 

1. Pull the entire belt out and secure it with a clothes peg. Now you can clean it at your leisure without risking the belt retracting. Smart, right?! 😉

2. Wipe the entire belt with a damp cloth and soap. This is usually sufficient. Remember to wipe both sides of the belt and be a little extra thorough in the middle, where the belt has the most contact with the body.

3. If the belt is soiled with sweat or cigarette smoke, it is more difficult; you may need to use soapy water and a soft brush and gently “scrub” the entire belt. 

4. Wipe it with a damp cloth.

5. Leave the belt extended to dry before carefully letting it retract again. Do not release it and allow the belt to retract suddenly, as it may twist. 

Remember not to do this when it is below freezing outside, as any remaining water can freeze and enter the retraction mechanism.
