How to wash sheepskins

It is advisable to avoid washing sheepskins whenever possible. Air them out, brush, and spot-clean stains (avoid washing the entire skin). However, there comes a point where washing or discarding is necessary. If you feel the need to wash the entire skin, here are some tips:

Our All-Purpose Detergent contains no enzymes, making it suitable for wool.

All-Purpose Detergent

Step-by-Step Guide:

1. Prepare the detergent:
Fill a large basin or bathtub with cold or lukewarm water. Do not use hot water, as it may cause the skin to shrink.
Add a small amount of All-Purpose Detergent and stir.

2. Wash the skin:
Place the sheepskin in the water and gently agitate with your hands. Avoid twisting or wrinkling the skin excessively.
For stains, gently rub them with your hands or a soft brush.

3. Rinse thoroughly:
Empty the water and refill the basin with clean cold water to rinse out the detergent. Repeat this process until the detergent is completely washed out and the water runs clear.

4. Press out excess water:
Lift the skin from the water and let it drain. You can gently press out excess water with your hands, but avoid twisting the skin.

5. Dry the skin:
Lay the sheepskin flat on a dry towel and roll the towel with the skin inside to absorb more water. After pressing out as much water as possible, lay the skin flat on a surface to dry. Avoid direct sunlight or heat sources like radiators, as they can stiffen the skin. During drying, gently stretch and pull the skin to maintain its shape and prevent shrinking.

6. Brush the skin:
When the skin is nearly dry, use a brush with soft bristles to fluff the wool and keep it soft.

Tips:
Wash sheepskins as infrequently as possible to maintain their natural oils (lanolin) and quality.
If you're unsure how your skin will react to washing, consider testing a small area first.
If washing the sheepskin yourself seems challenging, you might also consider professional cleaning services.
