Soap spray as an all-purpose cleaner: 5 tips for toxin-free everyday cleaning

In our daily lives, we spend a great deal of time doing small cleaning tasks such as wiping down the kitchen table and cleaning the stove. It is important to be aware of which chemicals we use in our daily cleaning, and it turns out that simple products such as soap are often sufficient to keep the home clean. Covering up bad odors with perfumes is not the best way to achieve a clean home; it is better to clean properly. Below are some tips for using soap spray as an all-purpose cleaner in different areas of the home.

Sometimes we take the time to do a deep clean, but thankfully, it is not necessary every day! Everyday cleaning—the little bit we do each day—is probably what most of us spend the most time on if we were to actually time how long we spend cleaning at home. We wipe down the kitchen counter, load the dishwasher, and wipe the worktop; we clean the stovetop after frying Wednesday’s falukorv sausage and after the pot of macaroni has boiled over.

We think it is very important to consider which chemicals we come into contact with every day. Cleaning products are one of them. For the tasks mentioned earlier, you actually do not need any harsh products; soap works just as well.

Let’s talk about perfumes!
Did you know that a perfume can contain up to 40 different chemicals, yet the ingredients list may simply state “perfume”?

The best way to make your home smell clean is actually to clean it properly, not to “cover up” bad odors with lots of perfumes. Honestly, do you want perfumes on your cutting board where you chop your salad, or on your dining table where you place your sandwich?

• Clean the kitchen counter – Spray on and wipe with a lightly dampened cloth (preferably compostable)

• Stovetop – Spray on and wipe with a lightly dampened cloth. For baked-on food residue, use a cooktop scraper first.

• Living room table – Spray on and wipe with a damp cloth. Shiny table surfaces / glass tables – wipe dry afterward with paper towels. 

• Bathroom – spray on and wipe off.
  Always use a special cloth for the bathroom, i.e. do not use the same cloth in the kitchen and the bathroom.

• Frames, trim, doors – Spray on and wipe with a lightly dampened cloth. Remember to do this more often during cold and stomach-flu seasons. Note: Wash or boil your cloth regularly to prevent the spread of infection.
