Cooktop
Sara IdenforsIn this blog post, we show you how to easily clean your cooktop without unnecessary and harsh chemicals.

Should you use a scraper or a sugar cube? Should you buy strong cleaning products or not?
Here we show you a simple and effective method.
We also show you how to prevent the cooktop or induction cooktop from becoming cloudy after cleaning. Stains on a glass-ceramic cooktop can be difficult to remove, but with the right knowledge, you can solve the problem without any difficulty.
The best-tested cooktop cleaner is simply natural.
You need
- A superfatting soap
- Eco-fiber cloth
- Baking soda
- Cooktop scraper
- Cloth
- Polishing cloth – microfiber cloth
- Vinegar
With these simple items, you can avoid stains on glass-ceramic and induction cooktops, regardless of whether the brand is Cylinda, Ikea, or something else entirely.
Do this:
- Start by dampening the microfiber cloth, then clean the cooktop with soft soap and the microfiber cloth.
Work over the entire cooktop and let it sit for a minute or so; rub with the eco-fiber cloth—it will not scratch the cooktop. - Wipe with a cloth and check whether any stains remain.
- Do you still have stains? Sprinkle a little baking soda on the cooktop, dampen the eco-fiber cloth, and work on the stain.
- Is it completely hopelessly burned on? Then use the cooktop scraper. Scrape lightly with even strokes. Do NOT press too hard, and do not use the corners of the scraper. Several light strokes are the solution. Then treat the stain with the baking soda as well.
- Remove with a damp cloth.
- Now polish the cooktop with a soft cloth. Preferably microfiber.
- To remove the “cloudiness” and make the cooktop shiny and nice, put a little vinegar on the cloth.
Why is it so important to have a clean cooktop?
-Well, a dirty cooktop transfers dirt to the bottoms of your pots, which will of course then be transferred back to the cooktop the next time you put them on it. A vicious cycle, quite simply. A clean cooktop and clean pots and pans are also much more efficient because they heat up faster on the stove. With dirt in between, the stove works much less efficiently. So it is also a small but important thing you can do for the environment.
The sugar cube, then?
It’s really good. Feel free to use a sugar cube instead of a scraper if you like, but the sugar itself has no effect. It’s the mechanical scraping that loosens the dirt. The fact that it takes a little time and that you have to rub a bit is exactly what makes the sugar cube work so well … you could just as well use an eco-fiber cloth.
