What is best for cleaning windows?
Sara IdenforsIn today's text, we will focus on an important part of household cleaning: window cleaning. Getting windows clean and streak-free can be a challenge, but with the right technique and products, the results can be fantastic! Let's take a closer look at the subject and explore some tips and tricks for achieving sparkling clean, streak-free windows.
How do you get clean windows without streaks?
That is a good question; getting windows clean is not entirely easy, but you can make it easier or harder for yourself.
The difference between the outside and inside of windows
The inside of windows is rarely as heavily soiled as the outside can become, especially if you live near a dusty road.
The inside is therefore a little easier to take care of than the outside—but windows are meant to see through, so both sides must be clean!
How to clean the outside of your windows—step by step
If the outside is not particularly dirty, window-cleaning spray and a bunch of clean cloths or paper may be enough.
But if there is a lot of dirt, simply spraying and wiping will not help—it will only create a mess.
In that case, we recommend:
- A bucket of warm or lukewarm water
- Some window cleaner (or a few drops of dish soap)
- A good window squeegee
A squeegee is a squeegee, right? No! There is actually a big difference between cheap rubber squeegees and proper window squeegees.
If you have large and numerous windows (especially near a road), it may be worth investing in a really good squeegee.
Here's how:
1. Use a soft cloth or sponge and wash the window.
2. Squeegee clean and wipe the squeegee between each stroke.
3. If streaks appear, use window cleaner and a soft, clean cloth or paper.
4. Wipe the frames with a separate cloth – not the same one used for the glass.
How to clean the inside of a window
The inside can be cleaned using the same method as the outside, but often all you need is:
- A cloth or paper
If you want an extra-shiny finish, you can of course also use a squeegee.
Why do streaks appear on windows?
Streaks are what many people find most difficult to avoid when cleaning windows.
We at Västerbottenssåpa have developed a window cleaner that – if we may say so ourselves – is highly effective against streaks.
What causes streaks?
Streaks are caused by clusters of:
- Particles
- Salts in the water
- Remaining dirt residue
That is why a good window cleaner needs to both dissolve the dirt and leave a shiny surface.
What does our window cleaner contain?
Västerbottenssåpa window cleaner consists of:
- Soap
- Ethanol (made from grain residues)
- Water in perfect balance
This counteracts cluster formation and streaks – and produces a clear, shiny result.
Does not contain:
- Color
- Fragrance
- Ammonia
- Unnecessary additives
As usual with us – no unnecessary extras!
The window cleaner also works excellently on glass surfaces and mirrors.
