In addition to the usual everyday cleaning, there are some things you can advantageously do during this dark and cold time of year. We've put together a list of some tips just for this season!

1. Keep it tidy outside.

A sturdy broom makes it easy to keep steps and patios slip-free. It gets a little more fun with a nice broom, maybe even with a knitted stick warmer. Stick warmers from Västerbottenssåpa are knitted by hand from leftover yarn – recycling, you know 😉 We don't want anything to go to waste. Speaking of recycling... if you write the code: "kasse" in the shopping cart, you can buy a shopping bag in 100% recycled material. The offer is valid 15/1 – 21/1 2018.

2. Use the snow (if you have snow) to freshen up the carpets.

3. Take the opportunity to dust and clean the bedroom now that the air is dry.

It's a good idea to go through the bedroom right now. Mattress toppers can be taken to the laundry, but it's not always necessary; it works well to clean them with bikarbonat.

4. Sort through papers, newspapers, and flyers.

It easily becomes too much paper, so make sure to take paper to the paper recycling and make sure to set up a good place for paper collection at home. Once you have that, it's easy to keep the paper tidy at home. Some newspapers can be saved so you have them when it's time to sow seeds and repot plants.

5. The pantry is also a project that is well suited to take care of during the winter when the garden, balcony, or other spring and summer activities don't take up your time!

Unfortunately, it's quite easy to be affected by pests. Even the most well-cleaned pantry can be affected by pests. All it takes is accidentally bringing home a single package with "bad contents" from the store, and you may have to throw everything away, which is a shame. Therefore, it's a good idea to go through the pantry and preferably transfer things you use often and a lot of to glass or tin jars. If you gradually replace bags with jars, it will make cleaning much easier. Bags very easily get small holes, and there is often some flour hidden in the folds of the bag that will leak out and make your pantry messy. A tin jar with flour in it is easy to close properly, and it's also easy to wipe off and keep clean around. The difference between storing flour in a tin jar versus having it in the bag is significant, so the work of transferring pays off in the long run.

6. Start a "reduce plastic" project.

Some people do everything at once, but it's much easier to replace things gradually. Reducing plastic means replacing plastic that may contain harmful chemicals with natural materials. It's most common to start in the kitchen with plastics whose toxins you risk ingesting through food. So, number one is to replace plastic utensils that come into direct contact with food with wood or glass. Go through your kitchen drawers and see what you can spare and what you should replace.

Those were our 6 points with cleaning tips for dark winter evenings!
