Winter cleaning: 6 tips to make it a little easier
Sara IdenforsWinter is here, and with it comes the need to keep your home neat and tidy, especially when it is dark and cold outside. We have put together some tips for this season!

In addition to everyday cleaning, there are a few things that are especially worthwhile doing during this dark and cold season. We have put together a list of some tips specifically for this season!

1. Keep the outdoors tidy.
A sturdy broom makes it easy to keep steps and patios free of ice. It is even more fun with a beautiful broom, perhaps even with a knitted handle warmer. The handle warmers from Västerbottenssåpa are hand-knitted from leftover yarn—you know, reuse 😉 Speaking of reuse … enter the code: ” kasse ” in the shopping cart and you can buy a shopping bag made from 100% reused material. The offer is valid from 15/1–21/1 2018.

2. Use the snow (if you have snow where you are) to freshen up the rugs.

3. Take the opportunity to dust and clean the bedroom now that the air is dry.
It is a good idea to go through the bedroom now. Mattress toppers can be taken to a laundry service, but this is not always necessary; it works well to clean them with baking soda.

4. Sort through papers, newspapers, and advertisements.
It is easy to accumulate too much paper, so make sure to take paper to the recycling collection and set up a good place for paper recycling at home. Once you have that, it is easy to keep the paper organized at home. You can save a few newspapers for when it is time to sow seeds indoors and repot plants.

5. The pantry is also a project that is well suited to taking care of during the winter, when the garden, balcony, and other spring and summer activities are not taking up your time!
Unfortunately, it is quite easy to get pests. Even the cleanest pantry can be affected by pests. All it takes is accidentally bringing home a single package with “bad contents” from the store, and you may have to throw everything away, which is frustrating. Therefore, it is a good idea to go through your pantry and preferably transfer things you use often and in large quantities to glass or metal containers. If you gradually replace bags with containers, cleaning will become much easier. Bags develop small holes very easily, and a little flour often hides in the folds of the bag, eventually leaking out and making a mess in your pantry. A metal container with flour is easy to close properly, and it is also easy to wipe clean and keep the surrounding area tidy. The difference between storing flour in a metal container and keeping it in the bag is significant, so transferring it is worthwhile in the long run.

6. Start your plastic reduction project.
Some people do everything at once, but it is much easier to replace things gradually. "Plastic reduction" means replacing plastic that may contain harmful chemicals with natural materials. Most commonly, people start in the kitchen with plastics whose toxins they risk ingesting through food. So, number one is to replace plastic utensils that come into direct contact with food with wood or glass. Go through your kitchen drawers and see what you can do without and what you should replace.
Those were our 6 cleaning tips for dark winter evenings!
