Which soap is better, yellow or green?

Let's dive deeper into this topic and reveal what really sets these two cleaning products apart. Then, with that knowledge in hand, we can decide which one is best for different purposes.

A common question and the answer is no more than that one is better than the other. Should it happen that you are standing and looking at two relatively cheap soaps where one is green and the other is yellow, it is most likely that the only difference between them is precisely the color of the bottle and the perfume.

It is the case that real old-fashioned green soap is no longer manufactured in Sweden.

The green soap turned green because it was boiled in hemp oil. When hemp cultivation was banned in Sweden, the hemp oil also disappeared and thus also the green soap. Green soap in stores today is therefore most likely colored yellow soap.

What you should instead ask yourself is whether you need a fatty soap or whether a soap without excess fat is fine. Pine soaps rarely have a large excess of fat, they are therefore well suited for the bathroom, plastic carpets and even as window dressing.

Fatty soaps such as Västerbottens soap and linseed oil soaps have a greater excess of fat and are therefore suitable for natural materials such as wood and stone, greasy dirt in the kitchen, heavily soiled surfaces outdoors, in stables or garages, in the bathroom, the oven, for treating decking, patios and so on.

Which soap is the best? Yes, it depends on what you are going to use it for!

You can find overfatted and alkaline soaps here: Västerbotten soap

Västerbottens soap is yellow. Västerbottens soap is produced from corn/rapeseed oil - cooking oil that is purified and saponified. Rapeseed and corn are very similar to linseed oil, so Västerbottenssoap has the nurturing properties that a linseed oil soap also has. There is therefore an excess of grease, which makes it easy to dissolve greasy dirt with greasy soap and so it regreases and cares for wooden floors, furniture and all other wood.
